Viagra may help ward off diabetes, new research has suggested.
New Delhi : Taking a Viagra pill every few months almost halves the risk of men with type 2 diabetes dying with heart problems, says a new research. A study of 6,000 men could pave the way for erectile dysfunction pills to be prescribed regularly for men with diabetes.
Experts at Manchester and Oxford university’s say the Viagra launched in 1998 and other similar erectile dysfunction drugs improve the heart’s contractions and pumping of blood all around the body. Their study found that these drugs that relax the blood vessels improving blood flow to groin also affects the ability of the heart to pump blood.
For some men, daily administration of a low dose of one of the oral medicines may result in improved blood supply to the penis, resulting in better erections.
Surgery for erectile dysfunction is usually considered only after all other options have failed. The two surgical options include the insertion of a semi-rigid rod or the implantation of a three-piece inflatable prosthesis. Penile prosthesis implantation has low infection, complication, and malfunction rates. However, since placement of an implant requires permanent injury to the erectile tissue of the penis, implant treatment is considered irreversible.
